A Nearby Ship Just Watched Titanic Sink
The SS Californian was empty and returning to the United Kingdom after completing a successful trip to the United States. The ship was just five miles away when the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg. The SS Californian's captain, Stanley Lord, warned Titanic crew multiple times about the presence of large icebergs. "Shut up, Shut up, I'm busy" was the only reply he received from the Titanic. Afraid of hitting an iceberg, Stanley Lord asked his crew to stop the ship in the mid-ocean and resume the journey the next morning. A few moments later, SS Californian crew received distress calls from the Titanic, but they never responded.
